Havana, Cuba | December 23, 2024 — A significant aspect of the Green Zone Foundation’s (GZF) new initiative to promote Arabic language learning in Cuba is the introduction of the AlifBee digital application. This innovative app is designed to make Arabic more accessible to learners by offering an interactive and engaging platform that combines modern technology with proven teaching methods. AlifBee allows users to study Arabic at their own pace, using lessons that include audio, visual, and written components to enhance language retention and comprehension.
This initiative comes at a timely moment, as it coincides with the global celebration of Arabic Language Day on December 18—an occasion recognized by UNESCO to honor the historical, linguistic, and cultural significance of the Arabic language. Arabic Language Day highlights the global contributions of Arabic to literature, science, philosophy, and intercultural dialogue.
In commemoration of this important day, GZF President Darwish Al-Shebani will deliver a keynote lecture in Havana, Cuba, addressing the deep-rooted linguistic and cultural connections between the Arabic and Spanish languages. His speech will delve into shared historical influences, loanwords, and the role of Arabic in shaping aspects of Spanish culture during centuries of coexistence in the Iberian Peninsula.
Through this initiative, GZF reaffirms its commitment to building cultural bridges and expanding educational opportunities across regions. The Foundation hopes that by leveraging technology and celebrating cultural heritage, it can encourage deeper mutual understanding between the Arab world and Latin America, starting with Cuba as a key partner in this cultural journey.
